Surroundings
The country house Maharač in Kamno lies in one of the most
precious, still quiet surroundings in Europe; just at the
foot of the Julian Alps, at the sunny side, near the border
with Italy, at the most beautiful river from Europe, the Soča.
Here you find numerous small, almost private beaches where
you can relax completely without being disturbed. This is
a surrounding where you still can breathe the air as it was
mending for: Clean, with a light taste from the fresh moisture
from the Soča, mixed with the sweet smell from the rich flora
and with the warmth from the sun on your skin.
Outdoor you are and you will be; walking for days or just
an hour, seeing and experiencing the numerous waterfalls.
Slab Brinta on 30 minutes walking from Kamno; more then 80
meters high. Shall we bet that you are (still) the only one
under it? Going up the Krn Mountain in one day, passing the
reminding of the battle at the Soča, where Hemingway wrote
about in his Farwell to Arms. Or at the south side of the
Soča, on the Kolovrat, following the trail from Lieutenant
Erwin Rommel, who defeated there the Italian army in the First
World War.
Standing up on the top from the Krn, more then 2200 meters
high, looking south at the sunny mirror from the Adriatic
Sea, seeing North the rough profile from the Alpine landscape
and down again, the Soča, streaming a silver line through
the green forests, where the largest trout of Europe is captured,
breaded and even able to be catch.
Far around, up and down you see the para sailers getting their
unique perspectives, carried by warmth of the sun which is
reflected by the river and the green forests. These trees
are trying to reach the tops of mountain rigs which are for
everlasting times the natural borders between the Soča valley
and the now Italian industrial area, where only their beautiful
cities remind of their former rich culture, now mostly spoiled
by the economic necessary infrastructure which dominates their
life's and surroundings.
After descending by foot, mountain bike, car or whatever,
you can start the beginning of the evening at one of the famous
restaurants, tasting the local exclusive wines, the real fresh
meat and the art of cooking of the for years still specializing
and developing, each other competing local cooks.
A next day you can visit the museums and archeological sites,
which are all near. You can feel and see the history from
the iron-age to the awful battles in the First World War on
many places. With the Museum (steam) train you can travel
through the only real existing "Marklin" surrounding
to Bled and Bohinj, transforming your youth imaginations finally
in reality.
Fishermen classify this land of living water as one of the
best places to fish and to be. You can go rafting, kayaking
or whatever other outdoor sport you want. But next to nature
you will be impressed by the very civilized, nice and friendly
Slovenes who are proud on their area and like to share it
with you.
Now please take a look at these links, which will give you
also a visual impression of these rich and special surroundings,
as a preparation for the real experience!
